Sheltered Oak Therapy Counselling in Wallingford, Oxfordshire

About Me. jan18

My Background

I am a warm, curious and reflective therapist who has experienced first-hand the wonderful power counselling has to heal and help us create a more contented self and life.

I’m an Accredited Integrative Counsellor (Person centred, Solution Focused, Psychodynamic) and BACP registered member with over 14 years’ experience of working therapeutically with people.

I work with individual men and women who are struggling for many different reasons.  We work together to explore and understand themselves better, finding ways to feel better and learn to cope differently with life’s challenges.

I am also working with Oxfordshire Mind supporting people with severe and enduring mental health.  Working in the primary care sector and their community wellbeing hubs, I offer 1:1 Wellbeing coaching and support - and signposting to more mental health support available across Oxfordshire.

Prior to counselling I worked in the Corporate world within Human Resources. From this I understand the highs and lows of this world and carry these experiences forward into my work.

My approach

As an integratively trained counsellor, I am able to use knowledge and skills from several approaches, which I tailor to best suit your needs:

• Person Centred
• Solution Focused Brief Therapy
• Psychodynamic
• CBT

If you would like to discover more on these approaches I have provided an overview section in the website.

Overview of first session

Every first session is different; I do not have a set formula as I want to be led by you and your needs. In most cases we will cover:

• Building a picture of what’s brought you to counselling
• What you wish to change and resolve in the counselling process
• Discuss any previous experiences you’ve had with counselling or other helping therapies – what’s helped or not
• What counselling is, and how we might work together.

Am I the right person for you?

There is no obligation for you to continue from this first session. It’s really important you have a chance to decide if you feel comfortable with me.

Some people know instantly, others need to go away and think. Either is fine and if unsure at all, I recommend you take a bit of time, contact a few different counsellors so as to make an informed choice for you.

Counselling is a wonderful investment in yourself and so it is important you spend your time and money in the best possible way for you!
